Throne of the Stars: Newsletter 1st Chronum 51st Year
Playtest Survey
Once again I would like to thank you for taking the time to try out Throne of the Stars. I would be grateful if you took a few minutes to complete a survey that will help me develop the game further. As a small incentive, there will be a choice of a very nice reward for those who complete the survey, at the end of the presented questions.
Click here to take the survey.
The Church
A number of Archbishops have now been elected to the Twelve Worlds, marking a return to power and influence of the Church. The Church has rewarded the noble houses of the new bishops generously with new starships. This has also led to the first potential conflageration over an accusation of heresy. Could war be on the way?
Tournaments
Several estates have held tournaments, with glorious and occassionally deadly outcomes. Congratulations to the new knights: Sir Mort of Atlantia and Sir Cecilia of Xerxes. And special condolences to House Bodenschatz who saw both father and son perish at the same tourney.
Weddings
The wedding of Legate Thorworld Dinjinn and Tribune Wargold Ryngold was a very modest affair with no invited guests.
Artefacts
A small number of new items have been added to the game under the category of "Artefacts." These are not resources to be collected and are not producable. They will be introduced in small numbers in different ways and can be used either in competitions like this week's (see below) or used to produce special buildings and items.
Special Buildings
Three new special buildings have been added to the game. They represent the restoration of part of the lost lore of the Old Empire and are challenging to construct.
Factory
These special buildings offer five times the production capacity of a normal workshop (ie. 250 mass per level per chronum). To build them you need 1 x Artefact, 1 x Nanite and 20 x Structural Module per level. They require 10 artisans per level as workers (same as a workshop).
Hospital
These special buildings improve the chance of recovery from illness, injury or wounds by any character at the estate. They give a +1 per level on recovery checks each chronum. To build them you need 1 x Relic, 1 x Goo and 20 x Structural Module per level. They require 100 freemen per level as workers.
University
These special buildings offer five times the Artisan recruitment of a College (ie. 250 artisans recruited per level per chronum). To build them you need 1 x Anomaly, 50 x Habitation Modules and 30 x Structural Modules per level. They require 250 freemen per level as workers (same as a college).
Special Items
Three special items have been added to the game. These are improved versions of existing ship sections which draw upon the lost lore of the Old Empire to produce.
Advanced Sensors
These are improved versions of normal sensors, offering a base detection of 4 on 1d10. They require 500 x Metals, 500 x Carbonite and 1 x Artefact to produce.
Advanced Shield Generators
These are slightly improved versions of normal shield generators and do not require the Devotion of Energy world project to produce. They require 3000 x Metals, 1000 x Rare Elements and 1 x Anomaly to produce.
Cybernetic Mind
These are improved battle computers and do not require the Spirit of the Machine world project to produce. They require 500 x Carbonite, 500 x Rare Elements and 1 x Relic to produce.
Other changes you may have missed
Fresh Starts
If you would like to start afresh with a new house, I'd be happy to cease your old house and let you form a new house. Just reply to this email letting me know that's what you'd like to do and once your old house ceases to exist, you will be prompted to form a new house when you next login to the site.
Competition
The Knights Templar report that a number of Church vessels have been victims of pirates. Their debris fields are now scattered in orbit of various worlds. Any House who manages to salvage a Relic from the debris is offered the services of a member of the Templars along with his Ranger starship.
To claim your prize, simply send an email to gm@thronestars.com with the name of the Estate which holds the salvaged relic. The relic will be removed from your inventory and the Ranger and captain added to your house.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to test the game.
cheers,
Throne of the Stars GM

Other changes you may have missed
- Emancipation of slaves will take place at estates where there are spare slaves and no freemen to work the buildings requiring them.
- Navigation tab added to Starships giving you at a glance view of the action points cost to travel to other worlds.
- Lest We Forget tab added to Noble Houses to remember those characters that have passed on.
- Bloodthirsty trait has been added. This is obtained by characters when they kill another in personal combat. It reduces their influence and increases their intimidation.
- Personal Combat Injuries: These have been overhauled so there is now a chance of injury and being wounded as well as death. However, to encourage tournaments, the chances of death from sword and lances has been greatly reduced.
- Combat Experience: Characters training a military skill will gain training points when they participate in ground combat and characters training a naval skill will gain training points when they participate in space combat. Likewise, those training in Melee will gain experience when fighting with swords and those training Etiquette will gain experience when fighting with lances.
- Weddings and Tournaments now generate a colourful report which is messaged to all attendees.
- Invite to Wedding - now you can invite all adult members of a house rather than specifying individual characters.
- Command Starship - for when a Lieutenant wants to take over command when the Captain is on shore leave.
- Set Wage Level - now you can change the wages you pay your workers with your Chancellor.
- Weddings - furs now give 1 honour per guest, cloth gives 5 honour, silk remains at 10 honour.
- Action Points costs shown in order forms.
- Plus the usual host of bug fixes.
